A New Curly Era article from 1934

For those of you new to the breed: the Sarona kennels in England bred some of the most important curly-coated retrievers in history, starting in the 1930s. Brigadier General F. Lance and his wife, Gladys, were also extremely well-known for their outstanding Salukis. Sarona curlies were particularly known for their field ability and two curlies bred by Sarona and imported to the U.S. in the 1930s are still the highest achieving field trial curlies in U.S. history. In this article, Gladys Lance, then secretary of the Curly-coated Retriever Club of England, describes what she hopes to be a renaissance in the breed. What she could not know, when this was published in May 1934, was the darkening storm in Europe that would result in World War II and almost extinction of the curly.
